I always wondered if I was drinking enough water. I tried to stick to the eight glasses a day rule, but could never really keep track. I’d just shrug my shoulders and hope that I was getting enough. But when my good friend and super blogger, Frances of Topaz Horizon, posted about the beauty benefits of chugging more than enough agua (read about it here), let’s just say that I got a little more motivated.
Okay, so the lighting in the after shot looks brighter and perhaps there’s a little airbrushing going on. But I don’t care. Drinking more than enough quality water is just good for your body and if the cosmetic benefits (like plumper skin and a glowing complexion) are the possible side-effects, then I’m going to put in more effort. Easier said than done, right? Well, I actually found cool apps to help me (and you!) achieve this goal.
First up: Plant Nanny (my sister, Camille, introduced this to me). Think of it as your virtual pet. Whenever you drink, you water your plant. The more you drink, the more it grows. If you don’t gulp anything down, it pretty much looks sad and like it’s about to die (awww!). You can choose different plants and flowers from tulips to dandelions (you can name ’em, too).
Next we have WaterMinder (it’s free today—download it, quick!). This one is more functional in design and features—and I find myself drinking more water because of it. It posts how much water you’ve downed on the app icon on your phone (like a notification for messages), so whenever O.C. me see this, it makes me want to drink more. Also, I find that the reminder feature on this app is more reliable than the one in Plant Nanny.
So there you go! No more excuses! Time to take care of yourself (and your skin!) by chugging more water. I’ve been doing this for a week and noticed that my lips are less chapped and I just feel better knowing that my body is well-hydrated. There are still days when I don’t meet my quota (it’s 50 oz. on Plant Nanny and 48 oz. on WaterMinder), but it’s cool. I’m just happy that I’m changing this bad habit! Hmmm…Perhaps water is the real fountain of youth. Haha!
Do you drink enough water? Let me know if you think doing so will help your skin, too! ♥
I computed how much H20 the lady in the article should drink based on the two apps. Based on her weight, she only needs to drink approximately 60 oz. (1.7 L) a day. However, she was downing 101.4 oz. (3 L) daily. I’m going to stick to the recommended amount by the apps first and see how it goes. And of course, remember to consult with your MD when dealing with health concerns!
