I’m filled with admiration for all the different ways brands, orgs, countries, and kindhearted folks are stepping up to help the victims of Typhoon Yolanda. Personally, if I must eat out or shop for a few necessities, I try to look for establishments that donate a portion of their profits for this very cause. Every little bit counts, right? Here are more ways you can help:
I’ve always been a fan of VMV Hypoallergenics for many reasons: it’s a local brand, their sunscreens are just awesome, and they always present evidence-based clinical studies about skin. (Okay, beauty geek alert for this one!) Anyway, they’re giving away a portion of their November and December 2013 sales to The Philippine Red Cross, too! Plus, VMV employees opted to donate the budget for their holiday celebrations to those affected by Yolanda. In case you didn’t know, we Pinoys love our Christmas parties, so this is a big deal. Kudos, VMV!
My fellow BDJBox beauty minister, Erica Paredes, and her partner in crime, Margaux, are putting together a “shoebox” gift drive to make the holidays a little more special for those hit by Yolanda. Here, you fill up the box with grooming essentials (like soap and toothpaste) and other urgently-needed necessities listed above. Do write an encouraging note to the person receiving it (probably better to make this in Tagalog) and remember to include a “special” item (like a cool shirt or coloring book) to help make the donee feel more loved. Read the flyer for more info and contact details for drop-offs. Tip: Rather than exchanging gifts with your family or barkada, why not ask if you can give this in their names instead? Deadline for donations is on December 13, 2013.
Free pedicure alert! On November 15 and November 16, Renegade Folk and Nail&Co are having a Feet Fête. Buy a pair of handcrafted shoes and you get to pamper your pretty toes with a free pedi. On top of that, 100% of the proceeds here will be donated to the Red Cross for Yolanda victims! I suggest that you buy your Christmas presents at this event—it’s for a good cause! Drop by 2/F Kensington Place, 1st Ave. cor. 29th St., Burgos Circle, BGC, visit renegadefolk.com, or call 0915-6088779 for more details.
A big THANK YOU to everyone who has chosen to help in their own way. Let’s all focus on doing our part. It doesn’t even have to be through grand gestures—you can just help by keeping the good vibes going for all the victims and volunteers! Sending love and sparkles to you all. ♥
