Sunday Sparkle

Yay! We just wrapped our very first Master Your Own Beauty workshop over at The Healing House!

With my partner in kikay, pro makeup Bambie Carlos. Doesn't she look like a Japanese princess? Her skin's so perfect!

The attendees in this workshop quickly made their way into my heart (they’re also little more private than usual, so I can’t really post too many photos—sorry, guys!). It was such a fun day and I have to admire them all for their strength. It takes a lot of vulnerability to show up to a makeup class and have someone help you navigate through some of your insecurities. That’s why I’m super happy I got to do this class with Bambie—we like to handle everyone we meet with a little sparkle + a lot of TLC :)

With one of our participants! Loved showing these girls how to let their inner beauty shine on the outside. It’s my favorite part about my job!

I gotta say though, I learned a lot of from our students, too. In one of the exercises, we asked the girls to take a look at the mirror and pick out their favorite feature. One of the participants brought her 7-year-old daughter, Luccia, and I had a very interesting conversation with her. Here’s what happened:

Me: What about you, Luccia? What’s your favorite thing about your face?

Luccia: Everything!

Ugh, my heart just melted! This precious little girl was right and she just taught me a h-u-g-e lesson. You’re not supposed to just pick and love the best parts of your face (or your own self, for that matter). You love everything—the good, the bad, the beautiful, and the seemingly ugly.

I totally get it now…and to whoever’s out there reading this, I hope you get it, too. You are beautiful because of everything you are and everything you’ve been through—it’s never, ever in spite of anything else. ♥

Sunday Sparkle

I have been a grumbling grumperson over the past few days. I’m just being a brat about something super inconsequential, but that thing that happened? It did kinda make me spiral into an “ugh” kinda mood that’s been challenging to shake off.

So thank you, Universe, for sending this little not my way via @galadarling's IG.

I don’t want to be an old fool in any way, shape, or form. So *deep breath* I shall focus on all the good things, detox my brain and body…and start writing about 5 things I’m grateful for every night before I go to sleep for one whole week. And if I don’t feel too self-conscious about what I jot down, I just might post my list on Snapchat, too. Follow me via @beautyandsparkl to take a peek! ♥

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

Three generations right here—my mom, grandma,!

That’s me with my Mom and Grandma!

I’m very lucky to have such strong, faith-filled women raise me. They both helped me become the woman I am today and it is their energy that I carry with me each day—full of love, hope, grace, and elegance. I’ll always be grateful for that!

But you know what? There are also other people who I’d like to celebrate on this day…

All the non-moms who mother—like me! Aunts or Titas, nurses, nannies, mentors, mother figures, single dads...the list goes on and on! P.S. Just about to take my godson out for a movie date here! Don't worry, we were parked :p

As a woman in her thirties, I’ve encountered my fare share of questions about motherhood. And like Jennifer Aniston wisely said, “You may not have a child come out of your v*gina, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t mothering—dogs, friends, friends’ children.” Even though I may not officially face all the pressures that come with being someone’s legal mom, I do know what it’s like to love another with my whole heart and to feel equally responsible for helping them become the best person they can be.

It's a lovely day to remember those who've shaped you (and maybe even your kids!).

So to all the people out there who are spreading the maternal l-o-v-e in their own special, non-trad way…Happy Mother’s Day! I hope you know that you deserve to be honored, too. ♥

Sunday Sparkle

A friend and I were talking about how we used to be braver (or maybe, crazier) during our more youthful days. Back in my teens and early twenties, I used to be a lot more fearless. Roller coasters would thrill me, drinking a bottle of wine on my own wouldn’t faze me, and just saying “yes!” to an unknown adventure would bring out the #girlboss in me. But now? It seems like I tend to err on the side of caution more.

I think that’s why I like the movie, Yes Man. Sometimes, I feel like I have to say “yes!” more and just not think about what the outcome or consequence would be. Seriously, I kinda want to experiment and just do what Jim Carrey’s character did and say yes to every opportunity that pops up—no matter how crazy or silly it is. It seems like so much fun can come out of it!

What about you? Do you say “yes!” to new adventures without having to think? Leave a comment and share your thoughts with me! ♥
