I’ve got a local favorite up for review today! This brand has quite a cult following in Manila and the fabulous news for my sparkly readers in the US & Canada is that they ship internationally, too.
If you’ve been following my blog, you know that I’m not a big fan of matte lipsticks. That’s why I got a bit worried and wondered if Happy Skin could pull off a matte formula. Really hoping that my lips won’t feel like they’re on fire after trying this on!
I rarely wear nude-ish lippies, but this shade really looks good on Pinay complexions and those with darker lips. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t have to wear a lot of makeup to liven up my skin (read: I didn’t look pale or washed out).
The best part? Happy Skin lived up to its promise! This matte lippie was pretty moisturizing and I didn’t even have to prep with balm. It felt light on my lips and I didn’t even feel like I was wearing a matte formula at all.
Its secret weapon is Cupuaçu butter, an ingredient from the rain forest that can attract 240% more water. That’s probably why I was able to wear this lippie the whole day (with touch-ups every 3-4 hours) and it still felt really comfortable on my lips. I didn’t even have the urge to use lip balm or layer a gloss over it. Yay!
You’ll like this because the wicked, hot color will make you feel sexy in the boardroom and the bedroom. It’s very rich and you only need one swipe to get the color that you see in the tube. I like that the wand has a pointy tip, since you have more control during application. If you have thinner lips though, I reco that you paint it over pout with a lip brush for more precision.
A lipstick this rich is usually horrifying for most boyfriends because it can leave all kinds of gooey marks on their cheek. I think the guys will like this one a little more though because even though it kisses off a bit, at least it won’t be sticky (it uses wax-free gel technology).
The wand picks up a lot of product, so I really think it’s better if you apply it with a lip brush to avoid getting lipstick on your teeth. Compared to the matte formula, this one feels a little heavier on my lips. It lasts longer though because I was able to get through a whole afternoon (with a light snack and tea) without having to retouch.
For me, it’s the matte lipsticks (shocker!). I’m actually itching to head to their store to check out the two other matte shades (you can click here for a peek, too). The hot pink one definitely needs to be in my kikay kit!
