#GetLippieTuesday

I have a lot of new lippies to review and couldn’t decide which one to write about first. So I asked the gals on my personal and public Facebook page (follow me here!) which brand they wanted me to feature and Maybelline got the most votes! Why? A lot of women (like me, lol) are looking for budget-friendly makeup finds!

The Maybelline Vivid Matte Lipstick, P299 each.

Here’s the reader’s pick for today’s #GetLippieTuesday review: Maybelline Vivid Matte Lipstick, P299 each.

Based on the sheer number of Maybelline posts on my blog, you can tell that it’s my favorite drugstore brand. That’s why I was worried when they released a matte line. Would it look chalky? Would a matte lippie this cheap make my pout crack and suffer? Would it disappoint?

Here's what the packaging looks like. Not too fancy or exciting to whip out, but the matte cap is a nice touch.

So let’s just dive in and I’ll answer all the questions I listed above, because chances are, those are things you’re wondering about also.

First question: Would it be chalky?

First question: Would it look chalky?

My answer: Not if you have smooth, moisturized lips. I’ve been drinking tons of water and only apply balm when needed, so it glided over my lips pretty well. It has a powdery-feel when you slick it on and doesn’t have the usual grit or tugging that most matte lipsticks have (like MAC). The tip of the lipstick did crumble a bit when I swatched it, but overall, it didn’t look chalky on my actual pout.

The Shade: Violet Pink. If you like fuchsia as much as I do, then get this!

The colors are pretty vivid, but you will need to swipe on two to four thick coats to gain intensity. So if you’re just starting to experiment with bolder colors, this a good lippie to buy since it’s buildable and starts off kinda sheer.

The shade: Scarlet Red.

Let’s move on to my second question: Would a matte lippie this cheap make my pout crack and suffer? Surprisingly, it did not! I tried it on without lip balm and my lips stayed very comfortable throughout the day—even if I reapplied. When I woke up the next day, my lips felt normal also (usually it feels more dry if I use a matte formula). So kudos to Maybelline for not making our lips feel like they’re burning off!

The shade: Neon Pink.

As I’m looking at the photos, I realized that the finish is more of a powdery matte and doesn’t have the immediate impact that liquid lipsticks have (click on the link to compare it to Stila and Kylie Lip Kits). But for the bargain price of P299? You can’t really complain!

And now, the final question: Would they disappoint?

And now, the final question: Would they disappoint?

Nope, they didn’t disappoint. Maybelline defended its title well and continues to remain at the top of my drugstore makeup list. I wear these lippies almost every day and they last pretty long, too. I can go about four to five hours without having to retouch and I love that I don’t need to worry about toting lip balm around. The best part? You can get all three colors for the price of one high-end lippie! Yay for budget-friendly makeup wins!

Fair warning though—lipsticks with matte finishes will always be a beauty staple, but the hype is fading. So if you want to hop on the trend before it wanes, this is a great way to do it without overspending. ♥
