Over the past few months, I’ve been battling with really rough, dry, and flaky lips. I got so paranoid that I even consulted with a derma because it didn’t seem normal to me anymore (she just told me to drink more water).

And that’s why I’m using this app again! It’s a fun way to remind me to drink water (read more about it here!).

Still, I was pretty challenged because I couldn’t find the right lip balm for me (this one from Bioderma worked for me before, but I couldn’t find it anywhere!). I used Carmex, Burt’s Bees, and even Lucas Papaw. And although these products kept my lips comfortable and prevented them from drying out, they didn’t really HEAL my skin condition because the flaking was pretty severe. But you know what did work?

This little impulse buy from Sephora! I saw it by the counter while I was in line and just decided to buy it.

This little impulse buy from Sephora Singapore! I saw the Smith’s Strawberry Lip Balm display near the counter and bought it on a whim even though the price seemed a bit steep (about SGD$20 or Php600+).

It’s no secret that the Smith’s Rosebud Salve is legendary when it comes to softening lips, but I never really wanted to try it for two reasons: I’m not a fan of rose fragrances and I don’t like using products that require you to dip into pots or tins for hygienic purposes. So when I saw this variant, which is strawberry-scented and in a tube, I had no more excuses. I was finally going to be able to try the Smith’s legendary, lip saving formula!

I liked the delicate pink shade! It's pretty thick—kinda like petroleum jelly—so a little goes a long way.

When I first used it, I was pretty worried because it was a little heavy on my lips. I applied it before bed and hoped for the best. Upon waking, I forgot that I put in on and only remembered when I felt the balm residue on my pout. It was much lighter though, so I assumed that it was absorbed by my skin. Here’s what really blew my mind: When I checked the mirror, all the flakes were gone and my lips went back to its natural texture. It was softer, smoother, and just looked a whole lot better. Not bad for using it just once, right?

So first impression-wise, I’m obviously quite impressed! I’ll definitely have to continue using light layers of this lip balm to see how it works long-term, but I have high hopes that my dry lips will be a thing of the past thanks to this this fab find.
