After a traumatic gel manicure experience at a salon, I vowed never to get one again (it made my nails sooo brittle). The problem? I’d catch myself staring longingly at the extra shiny and vivid finish vivid colors of gals with gel manis. #NailEnvy
Now don’t get confused—I technically haven’t broken my vow about gel manicures that need to be cured with LED or UV lamps. Girlstuff’s Solique gel polish line is actually unique because its formula gives you all the perks of a gel mani (like high shine, intense color) and it’s supposed to stay chip-free longer. The difference? You just apply it like regular polish!
What’s even more awesome is that you don’t have to go to the salon and torture your nails with the whole “nail foil” removal technique. The Solique polish can be removed using regular nail polish remover and it’s 5-Free also (meaning no toxic ingredients like toulene and formaldehyde).
Okay, so now that you know what the Solique line is all about, let’s see it what it looks like on me and find out how long it actually stayed chip-free!
This was applied on a Tuesday and I was leaving for my Davao trip on Thursday. I know girls love getting gel manis because it stays perfect for about two weeks, so I was curious to see if it would stay chip-free while I traveled over the weekend.
I noticed that my nails started chipping by Friday or Saturday, but because of the shade, it wasn’t that obvious. I saw a few bloggers comment on social media that their polish lasted and stayed chip-free, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case for me. Hmm…maybe if you’re not in transit, it’ll last longer? Will have to try again.
I think the best tip I can give you is to make sure that you apply the polish in room temperature with the fans and air-conditioner turned off. During the event, the nail artists had a hard time painting our nails because of this and I think that’s probably one of the reasons why the polish chipped so easily (I can go up to two weeks with regular polish sometimes when I’m just in Manila).
Even though the Solique line lasts just as long as regular nail polish, I’d still buy it for the shades and the envy-worthy shine it gave sans damage. I was even bummed when I noticed that my kit didn’t include Love Me Like You Do (the color I wore to Davao). I’ll definitely buy that shade the next time I hit Megamall—it’s such an affordable, guilt-free nail treat!
