Beauty Snap: Dry Your Mani With An Ice Bath

Ice, ice baby—it's your secret weapon for a quick dry.

Ice, ice baby—it’s your secret weapon for a quick dry.

Here’s a nifty trick I discovered to help your polish dry in under three minutes:

You’ll Need: Ice, a small bowl, and water

The Technique: Post-polish, fill a bowl with water and ice. Once cold, dunk your wet nails for at least two minutes. The temperature can get a bit uncomfortable, so lift your fingers every 10 to 20 seconds if you can’t stand it.

The Logic: Because nail lacquers harden when exposed to cold temps, this technique will set your mani all the way down to its base coat.

Extra Nail Tip: When I’m at a nail salon and need to leave ASAP, I just ask the technician to fill a soaking bowl with ice cold water from their dispenser. Did this thrice already and it worked every time! Watch the faces of the technicians who aren’t familiar with this nail trick—they’ll go from doubtful to amazed to impressed. So funny! ♥

Get Waxed At Home

Traffic has been crazy, so I prefer to get beauty stuff done at home when I can. Lately, my sisters and I have been maximizing the services of our go-to waxing lady, Ms. Elisa. She de-fuzzes everything: brows, underarms, your bikini area, arms, legs, linea negra for preggy ladies, and even your toes. She also makes her own wax from a concoction of lemon and white sugar. Took a few photos of her with my iPhone while she did my lower legs, so you can see her in action:

First, she applies the wax using a popsicle stick.

Next, she lays a strip of cloth over the wax and smoothes it over your skin.

Then zip-zip! She whips the cloth strip off along with all the unwanted hair!

Don't want to do the waxing in your bedroom? Then you'll have to be a contortionist sometimes.

I like that Ms. Elisa is pretty thorough. She meticulously plucks stray strands that are left behind or too short for the wax to grab (I suggest you ask her to use your own tweezers). She double-dips though, so if you’re O.C. about hygiene, then it’s best that you go to a proper salon. I know a few girls who have gotten Brazilians with her and are quite happy with the results. Me? I’m a bit of a germ freak, so I only let her strip my lower legs and toes.

To set an appointment, text or call Ms. Elisa through the number below (she services the Metro Manila area). Take note that she also decreases or increases her rate depending on the amount of hair you have. Oh, and I still give her a little tip after she waxes me. Here are her deets:

Boys + Makeup = Madness

Who doesn’t love YouTube beauty guru and Lancôme’s first ever video makeup artist, Michelle Phan? She recently visited the HQ and they produced a hilarious video where three men tried to re-create a look from one of her tutorials. She didn’t take it easy on them and chose a challenging how-to that even most women would have trouble with. But enough talking—just watch and prepare yourself for lots of cute and funny moments (Guy, while applying eyeshadow: “Oof! You get little fluffs of dust that get in your eyes. It’s like a contact sport.”).

See, gentlemen. It’s harder than it looks, so please don’t complain if we need a little extra time primping. ♥

Love and sparkles,
