Review: EMK Beverly Hills Skincare

Have you heard of this brand? I remember seeing it on social media, but I didn’t really pay much attention to it…until I got an email from local actress, Carla Abellana. After glancing through the info she sent me about the products and seeing that Reese Witherspoon also uses the line, I caved and decided to give it a try!

The first thing I tried: the EMK Bloom Toner.

Carla sent me a customized kit to help balance my skin. I was super excited when I saw that it included the EMK Bloom Toner (US$44, 200ml).

I rarely get to test toners, so I was curious to see if using one would really make a difference on my skin. Honestly, though? I think I’m still in denial about the fact that I really need to use one (probably because toners from my generation were spiked with alcohol). But let me tell you—it’s good to add one to your routine because toners nowadays are usually filled with essences and help your skin absorb your creams better.

When I used the EMK Bloom Toner, here’s what I noticed: my skin felt immediately refreshed and more hydrated. You can mist it all over your face and neck or spray some on a cotton pad (I prefer the latter since it also helps get rid of leftover dirt). It smells like rose water, but thankfully, it’s not too lola-ish. I noticed that during the days I skipped using this, the moisturizer just sat on my skin (I could feel a bit more residue when I’d wash my face in the a.m.). There are a lot of botanical ingredients in it like Rose Hips Berry and it also uses Bioplacenta plant proteins, so click here if you want more deets about the technology!

I also used the EMK Beverly Hills Optima Face Cream (US$90) and Supra Night Recovery Cream (US$142).

Here’s what you need to know about EMK: The brand uses Bioplacenta plant proteins to help regenerate your skin and repair its collagen structure. It can penetrate deep into the layers of your skin, promotes circulation, and gives your baby-smooth skin. EMK gets its placenta from the Agave Cactus because it’s bio-identical to human placenta (yay—it’s more ethical!). Basically, this is its claim to fame! Another thing I liked about it is that it’s free of artificial fragrances, parabens, and it’s super gentle.

I have sensitive skin, so I tried using the toner and the EMK Supra Night Recovery Cream first.

My first impression: The cream smelled like Airheads Green Apple Candy (90s kids, you know what I’m talking about). It was rich and thick in the pot, but surprisingly, it melted into my skin rather quickly. I really enjoyed slathering this on after using the toner. After the first night though, I noticed that a tiny pimple pop up. But I decided to give it another try the next night and the pimple actually disappeared! That’s when I realized my breakout wasn’t because of the moisturizer.

Fantastic texture! It also contains vitamin A (retinol), vitamin E, and soluble collagen for an immediate "lifted" appearance.

After using it for about 5 days, I noticed that I was starting to look more and more fresh. My skin got tighter, it looked lifted, and I was looking a lot younger. The only thing missing was the glow. Although my complexion looked more even, it lacked the “lit-from-within” glow that I was looking for.

Since my skin was reacting well to the first two products, I decided to start using the EMK Optima Face Cream during the day.

No joke, guys. After two days, I got the glow I was looking for. I really wasn’t expecting it. After seeing the results on my skin, I realized how important it was to use a whole line together (regimens work!). I was really able to see how these products work together to deliver the best results. My skin became noticeably smoother, I got the bright and dewy glow I wanted, and my pores were back to normal. Another bonus? My skin also became more balanced and my oily T-zone was not so problematic.

Compared to the night cream, this one is a little more runny. Challenging to apply sometimes, but it is easily absorbed by your skin.

This moisturizer contains time-released Hydrapearls in order to plump up and moisturize your skin for up to 24-hours, Chamomile, Sage Leaves, and Vanilla. Ahh, yes…it smells like delicious vanilla. I think this is my favorite part about the cream, because I find it so relaxing to apply when I’m rushing in the morning—and it makes me crave for cookie dough ice cream! Oh, and did I mention that Victoria Beckham also uses this? #LOVEHER

Now for the downside: the packaging could use some work.

I’m not a fan of skincare products that come in ordinary jars. I worry that they’ll lose their potency since it gets exposed to air and because you dip your fingers (or spatulas) into it. For EMK in particular, their jars come with a lid. For the Night Cream, it was a pretty good fit. But for the Optima Face Cream, I found it difficult to close and the cream (as you can see in the photo) would leak out. That said, these jars aren’t very travel-friendly. I’d worry about it spilling and they’re also heavy to tote, so I’d definitely have to transfer them to a smaller container to save on luggage space. And also, you’ll need to skip the night cream when you’re about to get your monthly visitor to avoid hormone-induced breakouts.

So what’s my final verdict? The EMK Beverly Hills regimen works! I usually test skincare for a week or two, but because I liked this set so much, I actually ended up using it for about a month and a half. I really saw fantastic results on my skin (noticeable firming + smoothening + a glow) and it kept my breakouts away. I usually go to the derma for cleaning once a month, but I haven’t had the need to go yet. It’s super pricey, but I can honestly tell you that investing in the regimen is worth it (you’ll get the best results if you use all three).

P.S.
Shout out and a big thank you to Carla Abellana for sending the kit! Now I get why you believe in the products so much! ♥
