Do you remember this feature from Preview magazine? I was asked to talk about my favorite makeup move—strobing! But after interviewing Camie about why she loves to contour, I’ve been experimenting with it a bit more. And besides, these new products have been making it super easy for me.
Can you guess what they’re trying to get you to achieve with this? It’s the enviable (and trending) “V” shape for the face! You can totally sculpt a thinner nose and face with this if you want to, so I thought I’d give it a try!
When I was researching, I was surprised to see that she actually liked using pretty pops of pink on her cheeks during red carpet events. There’s always a little sculpting underneath to emphasize her gorgeous cheekbones, but it’s very minimal. Based on the photos I saw on IG, I also noticed that she only darkens the contour shadows during photoshoots + movie promos.
I placed tiny swipes over the hollows of my cheeks, along my temple, jawline, and the sides of my nose. For the highlighter, I placed it over the highest points on my cheeks and my nose bridge. My first impression? Loved the highlighter, was iffy about the color of the contour cream (keep reading—swatches later!). But surprisingly, when I applied the contour on top of my skin, it was the perfect shade for Pinays! Super subtle!
I lightly dusted the darker powder over the areas where I placed the contour and used the lighter powder over the spots I highlighted. I super loved this! It deepened the shade and it seems quite foolproof. No matter how much you put, the color is super subtle. This means that if you’re a contour-highlight newbie, this is a great product to start with. Yay for #EasyContouring!
It’s the perfect pop of pink to recreate Angelina’s look! Since I already contoured with powder, I didn’t need to use the one in this palette anymore. I just blended the two pinks together and placed it over the apples of my cheeks. Then the lighter pink shade, I placed over the bridge of my nose. (And btw, my best friend noticed my blush and wanted to steal it from me, guys. It’s really that nice.)
I like that it was able to sculpt define my face in a subtle way. This way, it’s not too cray + I still look like me (just with fiercer cheekbones) when I go out. I also like how the whole contour-highlight game lifted my face. My only tip? The actual powder area for each color is teeny-tiny, so I had to use my smaller, travel-sized blush + contour brushes to carefully get the color I wanted. You can still use the small brush in the palette, but I like to use my own for more control and precision.
If you want more definition and drama, I’d say go for the contour stick (this one is also best if you prefer to strobe). If you want to create soft and natural shadows, get the powder. If you want to look more fresh and just do minor sculpting every now and then, get the blush.
