Sometimes, you get the best “a-ha” moments in the most random places. My recent one was while I was at the dentist. And no, it wasn’t because I was having a “David After The Dentist” moment.
I was in for a routine cleaning and to have one of my fillings replaced. Because I had a really busy day ahead, I was itching to leave ASAP. So when my dentist handed me a mirror to explain the procedure she was going to do on my tooth, I quickly handed it back. “It’s okay, Doc,” I said. “I don’t need to know. Just do what you have to do.” She stopped for a bit and then firmly said, “No, you need to know this. You need to learn.” And I was floored. My dentist was right on sooo many levels.
Growing up, things were usually decided for me and I was never really pushed to question things. I think that’s why I have a tendency to just go with the flow and naïvely believe those who have more experience than me—even if it goes against my fab intuition. Sometimes, it works. Most times, it doesn’t. I’m just glad that I know better now and thankful for these beautiful moments that remind me to stay present and to stay curious no matter how busy life gets.
So in the end, I took the mirror that was handed to me, forgot about my to-do list, and listened to my dentist. She was right—there were still things I needed to learn.
Happy Sunday, guys! ♥
