I have a confession to make: I’m kili-kili (armpit) conscious for many reasons. When it comes to skin darkening, I was aware of the usual culprits when it comes to this area—like shaving, waxing, hormones, and deodorant formulas. But here’s one cause that totally surprised me:
As far as I know, the excessive dampness can make your armpits darker in two ways: by increasing the friction in the area and by causing more bacteria build-up that can irritate your skin. Now that the it’s summer, it’s getting more and more challenging to keep this area dry.
Check out my proposed solutions to avoiding this beauty dilemma and keeping your underarms looking (and feeling!) fresh:
1. Use underarm shields.
You stick them along the lining of your shirt, right where the armholes would meet your armpit, and it can help prevent the sweat from coming into contact with the fabric. Pretty cool, but I don’t know how it can work for sleeveless tops. Click here to check out the site!
2. Go with a trusted deodorant.
I’ve tried deodorants that contain high concentrations of aluminum chloride before and it’s a godsend for those who sweat heavily. The catch? This ingredient, especially when used in potent doses, can really make your skin darken! I find it best to use a gentle antiperspirant spray with a whitening formula to help keep my kili-kili a little more dry. It may not really whiten your underarms significantly, but it will prevent your skin from getting much darker.
3. Just bring a pretty hanky.
When you start to feel your body temperature rising, excuse yourself and go to the powder room to wipe off any excess perspiration with a cotton hanky. You can use the temporary reprieve to calm yourself down and retouch your makeup, so you can face whatever sitch you’re in with lots of confidence. Tissue will work if you’re in a bind, but just make sure there aren’t any leftover shreds on your skin or clothes before you step out.
How do you feel about your underarms? I hope you’re one of the lucky ones who can raise their arms with confidence! ♥
