Here’s What Happened When I Used A Korean Face Mask For 7 Days

If I had to choose between skincare and makeup, I’d definitely choose skincare. But no matter how diligent I was with my cleanse-tone-moisturize routine, it wasn’t enough. After traveling to colder climates over the past few months, my skin finally hit its limit.

Here's what my skin looks like before the challenge. Dry, red in some areas, and tight!

Here’s what my skin looks like before the challenge. Dry, red in some areas, and tight!

When I got back from Japan last March, my skin was at its worst. It was dry, flakey, and rough—and I didn’t know how to deal. No matter how much I moisturized or exfoliated, nothing was working. So when Watsons asked me to do a 7-Day Korean Face Mask Challenge, I was in because I definitely needed to up my hydration game.

Watsons sent over a bunch of masks and I tried the 23 Years Old Cocoon Willow Silky Mask.

Can you see the little gadget beside the mask? That’s the MiLi Pure device. It hooks up to your iPhone via bluetooth and can check your skin’s moisture level. This way, we can check if the mask I’ll be using for 7 days really works. (Yes, I’m really that O.C. when it comes to skincare.)

This is the first time I'm trying a face mask that covers my lips!

This is the first time I’m trying a face mask that covers my lips! Btw, you guys should follow me on IG via @beautyandsparkl for more behind-the-scenes beauty action!

The mask felt weird and it felt a bit uncomfortable since my lips were covered for about 20 minutes, but despite that, it was very high in quality and very refreshing. It was thicker in texture and soaked in moisture-rich serum. I liked that it was especially made for toning dry, dehydrated skin (so it’s exactly what I needed) and that it didn’t make me breakout the entire week (huge win).

Here are the moisture results courtesy of my gadget from MiLi! The left photo is the moisture level of my face on the first day and the right photo is the moisture level of my face on the last day.

So in case you’re wondering if Korean face masks really work, here’s your evidence! On average, skin’s moisture level would jump by almost 5 to 7% immediately after using the mask. I really enjoyed using a mask every night for a week since it saved me a lot of time and effort (in my head at least). I just had to slap on the mask—no need to tone or put a separate eye cream. I would just wait 20 minutes, massage it into my skin after, and tissue-off any excess serum on my skin. It became a ritual that I really looked forward to!

And here's a photo of what my skin looked like after the 7-Day Watsons Korean Face Mask Challenge. What do you think?

I still need to work on getting the glow back at this point, but I was super happy that my skin was on its way to recovery. The redness isn’t as obvious anymore, it’s feeling a lot smoother, and I can feel the elasticity begin to return. Yay!

But if you truly want to appreciate the before and after shots, take a look at these photos… Continue reading

Sparkle TV: Watch What Happened At My Preview Magazine Shoot!

You guys! I’m super excited to share this with you :)

I'm in the June 2016 issue of Preview magazine! It's the country's top fashion glossy.

I’m in the June 2016 issue of Preview magazine! It’s the country’s top fashion glossy!

I’m super honored that they featured me as one of the beauty bloggers in the issue, because their standards are crazy high. It was such a different experience to be in front of the camera for an magazine editorial (I’m usually standing beside the photographer, directing). I was super nervous, but it turned out to be so much fun!

And it's because I got to work with an amazing team! That's Preview's Eugene David, Belle Rodolfo, and photog Koji Arboleda.

And that’s mostly because I got to work with an amazing team! That’s Preview’s Eugene David, Belle Rodolfo, and photog Koji Arboleda. A big thank you to Belle for choosing me to be a part of this beauty story!!!

I was really anxious and worried that I wouldn’t be able to, well, project. As an editor, I know how crucial it is for the model/subject to emote so we can get the shot. But thanks the fantastic direction of Team Preview, I was able to relax and just go with the flow—no tequila shots required! Haha!

Review: Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation & Concealer

I was thrilled when Urban Decay emailed me and said that they wanted to send me a few items for review. I thought I was dreaming! Urban Decay?? It’s like one of the coolest makeup brands out there and I’m on their beauty radar! Yay!

Getting a kit from a US brand was so different. Locally, they usually send a printed write-up about the product and brand (with a CD or USB filled with photos). UD sent a short note and a little info card that mentioned all the highlights about the Naked Skin line. It was short and sweet and straight to the point—I likey!

Wearable contour? That sounds like a good challenge!

Wearable contour? That sounds like a good challenge!

If you watch my YouTube videos, you know that contouring isn’t part of my makeup routine. But wearable contour? I can get on board with that. I was beginning to notice that my face was looking a tad long and flat lately in photos, so maybe adding more natural shadows might help (more about that on my YouTube channel soon!).

For now, let’s do a thorough review of these makeup goodies!

Let's start with the foundation! Isn't the rose gold box and sleek packaging pretty?

Let’s start with the foundation! Isn’t the rose gold box and sleek packaging pretty? I can’t get myself to throw them out just yet!

Okay so here’s the scoop on the foundation: It’s gives you major coverage without feeling heavy, there’s also a blurring effect that’s supposed to happen, and it has light-reflecting spheres (and peptides!) to help lessen the appearance of fine lines. Sounds good so far, right?

More swatches, my take on the “wearable contour” technique, and see what the foundation looks like on me after the jump! Continue reading

#GetLippieTuesday

I have a lot of new lippies to review and couldn’t decide which one to write about first. So I asked the gals on my personal and public Facebook page (follow me here!) which brand they wanted me to feature and Maybelline got the most votes! Why? A lot of women (like me, lol) are looking for budget-friendly makeup finds!

The Maybelline Vivid Matte Lipstick, P299 each.

Here’s the reader’s pick for today’s #GetLippieTuesday review: Maybelline Vivid Matte Lipstick, P299 each.

Based on the sheer number of Maybelline posts on my blog, you can tell that it’s my favorite drugstore brand. That’s why I was worried when they released a matte line. Would it look chalky? Would a matte lippie this cheap make my pout crack and suffer? Would it disappoint?

Here's what the packaging looks like. Not too fancy or exciting to whip out, but the matte cap is a nice touch.

Find out if these Maybelline matte lippies are any good (or if they made me change my mind about it being my favorite drugstore brand) after the jump! Continue reading

Are You A Makeup Addict?

I just got proof that I am. Haha, and that apparently, I am also a makeup hoarder :p See evidence below.

At least my family's supportive, right? Haha!

At least my family’s supportive, right? Haha! P.S. I’m lusting for the Wet n Wild Megaglo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals.

I was good, guys. I only asked for one. But now, I’m kinda getting antsy. Maybe I should’ve asked for two in case I accidentally drop it and it breaks. Or maybe, I should’ve gotten three in case said backup breaks and I hit pan faster than anticipated because it’s that fabulous. I mean, it’s just US$4, right? No harm done.

Ahhhh…Hahaha, I think I need help. Are you like this when it comes to good makeup deals, too? Tell me I’m not the only one! Better yet, please tell me if this is available in Manila!

Wishing you a happy Monday, my sparkly loves! ♥
