The Foundation (And Primer) I Can’t Stop Using!

Yup, it’s true! I really can’t stop using it!

This is the first time I used it months ago. Look how long my hair was!

As you can see, the foundation totally mimics the color and texture of my skin—only better. It doesn’t look like I’m wearing foundation at all, and the best part is, it looks even better IRL.

This is what it looks like at the end of a long day. A little more dewy, but still natural and glowing.

I love it! The pigment is perfect, it feels light on my skin, I don’t need to use a lot, and I basically just apply it with my fingers all the time. Want to find out what it is? Click, click, click! Continue reading

How This Organic Skincare Line Got My Glow Back (Part 2)

Guys! I finally got my glow back—and I think it’s even better than before!

I was soooo surprised when this organic night cream that I used actually delivered! No makeup!!

I was soooo surprised when this organic night cream that I used actually delivered! I’m not wearing any makeup at all here!!

Organic?? Can you believe it?? I swore off organic products for my face years ago when switching to VCO caused a horrible cycle of cystic acne (I used it for a year to no avail). So when I decided to try this organic line, I was wary, scared, and doubtful. But guess what? It obviously worked, and now, I’m hooked!

Skincare Options For Your Specific Skin Concerns

Okay, you guys. I have been trying some major skincare products recently and I thought I’d put them all together in one post. I categorized everything according to skin concerns, so it’ll be easier for you to sort through the products based on your current skin need. You ready? Let’s do this!

1. If You Want…Matte Skin
Practically every Pinay I talk to complains about the fact that her skin looks shiny or oily. If you want to control your grease production (or at least curb it while you’re wearing makeup), these goodies from Benefit can help.

That's the Benefit Porefessional Matte Rescue Gel, License To Blot, and Instant Wipeout Masks set.

That’s the Benefit Porefessional Matte Rescue Gel, License To Blot, and Instant Wipeout Masks set.

The Skin Lowdown: The mask is fun to use (watch how here) and it’s a great way to cleanse your pores of unwanted dirt and oil. As for the water-based mattifying gel, I like applying this on my T-zone when I don’t want to wear makeup and just want to look fresh all day sans retouching. Meanwhile, the License to Blot stick is fantastic for touch-ups. It has invisible blotting spheres that zaps shine for up to six hours and the stick is shaped like a diamond, so you can get apply it over the corners of your face easily.

2. If You Want…Smaller Pores
The reason your pores look big is because there’s dirt and oil trapped in there. This means that you need something that’s gonna get in there and do some deep cleaning!

Check out the Algenist Multi-Perfecting Pore Corrector Concentrate if you want tighter pores.

The Skin Lowdown: It has alguronic acid (so it has anti-aging benefits) combined with salicylic acid (to exfoliate and cleanse pores). I usually apply a moisturizer after I use this because it’s not super hydrating, but this lightweight, oil-free serum did help refine and brighten my skin. Full disclosure: my pores aren’t too huge to begin with, so I didn’t see much of a difference. But research results showed that 90% of the 100 women they tested noticed that their pore size minimized within four weeks of use.

3. If You Want To…Control Oil Production.

I started taking new vitamins recently and it made my face (and scalp!) super oily. It was weird, because my skin would feel grimy even after I washed my face. So I added these goodies from Bioderma into my routine to help balance my complexion again.

From left to right, that's the Bioderma Sébium Pore Refiner, Sébium Akn Smoothing Purifying Care, and the Sébium H20 Purifying Cléansing Micelle Solution.

The Skin Lowdown: I wanted to control my skin’s oil production without overdrying it, so I would use the Sébium H20 Purifying Cléansing Micelle Solution after I wash my face. Yup, after! It’s actually more of a makeup remover, but since it’s also a cleansing water, I would swipe it over my skin to get rid of leftover oil (think of it as a substitute for toner). After that, I’d apply the Sébium Akn Smoothing Purifying Care in the morning. It helps prevent your pores from getting clogged, so it served as a barrier between my skin and makeup to help prevent breakouts. Loved this complexion balancing formula because after 2 to 3 weeks, my skin went back to normal!

More skincare recos for anti-aging, pimple-clearing, and dry skin after the jump! P.S. There’s an event invite also for Murad if you want to join us for a fun Makeup Mixology class! Continue reading

Review: Maybelline V-Face Contour by Face Studio (Giveaway Inside!)

Do you remember this feature from Preview magazine? I was asked to talk about my favorite makeup move—strobing! But after interviewing Camie about why she loves to contour, I’ve been experimenting with it a bit more. And besides, these new products have been making it super easy for me.

But how could I resist these? Contouring looks so easy with the new Maybelline V-Face Contour line by Face Studio.

How could I resist these babies? Say hi to the new Maybelline V-Face Contour line by Face Studio! P.S. Make sure you read this post until the end for the giveaway!

Can you guess what they’re trying to get you to achieve with this? It’s the enviable (and trending) “V” shape for the face! You can totally sculpt a thinner nose and face with this if you want to, so I thought I’d give it a try!

Whenever I try new looks, I love looking for celeb pegs! This time around, I went with Angelina Jolie.

Whenever I try new looks, I love looking for celeb pegs. This time around, I took my inspo from Angelina Jolie.

When I was researching, I was surprised to see that she actually liked using pretty pops of pink on her cheeks during red carpet events. There’s always a little sculpting underneath to emphasize her gorgeous cheekbones, but it’s very minimal. Based on the photos I saw on IG, I also noticed that she only darkens the contour shadows during photoshoots + movie promos.

After putting my liquid foundation, I used the MaybellineV-Face Duo Stick, P499.

So now that I have my peg, I can start contouring! I applied my liquid foundation first and then I used the MaybellineV-Face Duo Stick, P499.

I placed tiny swipes over the hollows of my cheeks, along my temple, jawline, and the sides of my nose. For the highlighter, I placed it over the highest points on my cheeks and my nose bridge. My first impression? Loved the highlighter, was iffy about the color of the contour cream (keep reading—swatches later!). But surprisingly, when I applied the contour on top of my skin, it was the perfect shade for Pinays! Super subtle!

#FOTD

I’ve been playing around with a cleaner, more minimalist makeup style. I’m thinking it’ll be good for gals who need to look fresh and put-together at the office or just want to look gorgeous for their weekend dates ;)

What do you think? And to think, I'm running on about five hours of sleep here!

What do you think? Full disclosure: I’m running on about five hours of sleep here!

I mixed my favorite Maybelline foundation with the Kate Makeup Lock Primer, P550. It’s great for brightening up tired-looking skin and it gives you a powdery, oil-free finish.

Here's a look at everything I used on my face from Japanese brands Kate, Kanebo, and Lunasol.

Here’s a look at everything I used on my face from Japanese brands Kate and Lunasol. Let’s review them all, shall we?

I think the crucial element to this look would be the Lunasol Skin Modeling Eyes Kit, P3,000. It’s a limited edition set that comes with an eyeshadow palette, shiny pencil eyeliner, and peach-toned treatment gloss.

Cute, right? Very subtle, but it does pack some oomph. I blended all the shadows + used the eyeliner here.

I loved the colors and I was really surprised that it translated well on my lids. Browns always surprise me, to be honest. They really help you look more awake and put-together.

Swatched! Y'all know I love sparkles, but on eyeshadows, not so much.

Swatched! You can’t tell so much, but the darker shadow has a lot of little, glittery flecks.

I have to warn you that you will definitely need to use these eyeshadows with a primer to make them last all day. There’s a lot of fallout (especially glitter-wise), but it can be managed if you prep your lids with a good primer and don’t go too crazy when you load your brush.

And this is the set. It's pricey though, but super nice for beige and champagne shades for Pinays.

I think what I should really credit for my fresher than fresh look is the blush. That pop of color on my cheeks was just amazing and it really brightened up my face. The exact shades, swatches, and more budget-friendly eyeshadow palette options from Kate Tokyo after the jump! Continue reading
