5 Contouring & Highlighting Tips For The Makeup Newbie

Thanks to the Kardashians, contouring has become a huge trend in the makeup world. It always looks so simple and easy when you watch the Insta videos, but it another story when you have to start shading and strobing all by yourself.

Uh-oh.

LOL!

It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you’re first starting out, but don’t worry. With a little patience, practice and a loooot of blending, I promise that you’ll be able to do it like a pro soon enough. In the meantime, check out some of the highlighting & contouring tricks that I’ve learned along the way. These little tricks really made my makeup life a lot easier!

Tip #1: Cream Formulas Are Best For Contouring Newbies.
This is because they’re easy to blend and you can always use your sponge to erase any mistakes. When shopping, go for a color that’s one to two shades darker than your regular foundation. This will help the shadows look more natural and wearable if you’re at work or on a date.

The different shades allowed me to play around with stronger contours for events. I was also able to use the lighter shades as a concealer—yay for multi-tasking products!

Tip #2: Have Oily Skin? Opt For Powder Formulas.
This is especially true when it comes to your highlighter since the goal is to look dewy—not greasy. Because powders can absorb excess oil, this formula will last longer on your skin and it can even help control excess shine. The only challenge? Powders are harder to blend, but you can make life easier for you by investing in the right brushes (I prefer an angled brush for contouring and a mini fan brush for highlighting).  Continue reading

Review: Perricone MD “No Makeup” Makeup Line

I am obsessed with everything from Perricone MD. Their skincare delivers fantastic results (even though it may not smell so good—read about it here), and now, their “no makeup” makeup line is becoming something I constantly use.

These have earned a spot on my vanity table and in my travel kit!

My ultimate favorite will always be Perricone MD’s No Foundation Serum (find out why here!). If you’re just starting out and want to invest, this one’s a must. But if you’re already hooked and want to explore more from the line, here’s what I have to say about these three products.  Continue reading

Have Dry, Frizzy Hair? Try These!

Beach trips, the summer heat-slash-humidity, and blowdrying your strands can leave your hair dry, unmanageable, and unhealthy. I know this, because it’s the current state of my hair right now (*cries*).

Who can relate??

Can anyone else relate to this beauty dilemma??

Since I don’t have time to hit the salon for a treatment just yet, these are the hair products that I’m currently using to replenish my hair’s moisture. Most of them are drugstore finds, too! Take a look:

1. Dove Intense Repair Shampoo & Daily Treatment Conditioner

Think of it as hair therapy for split ends and damage!

Think of it as hair therapy for split ends and damage! It has repair technology that contains fiber actives to reconstruct hair from deep inside.

It’s designed to strengthen the current condition of your hair and make it resilient to future damage. I love the powdery-sweet, refreshing scent and the fact that my strands are less tangled after I shower.

So basically, if the ends of your hair feel like rough bristles, this sudser set might be for you!

2. Phyto Phytojoba Intense Hydrating Brilliance Shampoo & Phytobaume Express Conditioner

These are a little pricier, but they're sulfate-free options!

These are a little pricier, but they’re sulfate-free options for those who have colored hair or just want to use products with less chemicals.

This doesn’t weigh hair down and it rehydrates with jojoba oil, cornflower, and mallow extracts. I adored the coconut scent (it’s perfect for getting in the mood for summer!) and liked that it cleansed my scalp well even without the usual suds. As for the Phytobaume, it did smoothen my strands, but moisture-wise, I wish I could’ve done more. The bottomline? The shampoo is excellent, but you can pass on the mask.

If you blowdry your hair a lot or use hot tools, keep reading! The next sudser set helps protect against styling damage. Continue reading

I finally had time to sneak in a mani-pedi. And oh dear lord, I feel like a human again! Haha, pretty colors on my tips and toes just make me feel so happy and confident. (Leave a comment if you agree!)

I was thrilled to see this color on their roster because I’ve been seeing a lot of mint green in the latest S/S 2016 makeup collections. I don’t know if I can apply that color on my lids (like they did here with NARS), so I’m glad I get to incorporate this trendy beauty shade here on my digits.

What polish color is on your nails now? Tell me, tell me! ♥

Review: Laneige Time Freeze Eye Serum

During the last quarter of 2015, I had a lot of trouble sleeping. I was going to bed at like 2 a.m. and waking up at 8 a.m. Needless to say, it was horrible and my undereye area was definitely suffering.

And this was my savior!! The Laneige Time Freeze Eye Serum, P2,500.

And this was my savior!! The Laneige Time Freeze Eye Serum, P2,500.

Prior to using this, I was loyal to these two eye creams (see them here and here). Unfortunately, I noticed that the Estée Lauder one I was using had reached its peak and that it wasn’t doing anything for my skin anymore. So I made the switch!

If you want to reduce the sunken-eye look and lighten your dark circles, keep reading! I’ll talk more about the results I got after the jump! Continue reading
