Review: Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation & Concealer

I was thrilled when Urban Decay emailed me and said that they wanted to send me a few items for review. I thought I was dreaming! Urban Decay?? It’s like one of the coolest makeup brands out there and I’m on their beauty radar! Yay!

Getting a kit from a US brand was so different. Locally, they usually send a printed write-up about the product and brand (with a CD or USB filled with photos). UD sent a short note and a little info card that mentioned all the highlights about the Naked Skin line. It was short and sweet and straight to the point—I likey!

Wearable contour? That sounds like a good challenge!

Wearable contour? That sounds like a good challenge!

If you watch my YouTube videos, you know that contouring isn’t part of my makeup routine. But wearable contour? I can get on board with that. I was beginning to notice that my face was looking a tad long and flat lately in photos, so maybe adding more natural shadows might help (more about that on my YouTube channel soon!).

For now, let’s do a thorough review of these makeup goodies!

Let's start with the foundation! Isn't the rose gold box and sleek packaging pretty?

Let’s start with the foundation! Isn’t the rose gold box and sleek packaging pretty? I can’t get myself to throw them out just yet!

Okay so here’s the scoop on the foundation: It’s gives you major coverage without feeling heavy, there’s also a blurring effect that’s supposed to happen, and it has light-reflecting spheres (and peptides!) to help lessen the appearance of fine lines. Sounds good so far, right?

More swatches, my take on the “wearable contour” technique, and see what the foundation looks like on me after the jump! Continue reading

#GetLippieTuesday

I have a lot of new lippies to review and couldn’t decide which one to write about first. So I asked the gals on my personal and public Facebook page (follow me here!) which brand they wanted me to feature and Maybelline got the most votes! Why? A lot of women (like me, lol) are looking for budget-friendly makeup finds!

The Maybelline Vivid Matte Lipstick, P299 each.

Here’s the reader’s pick for today’s #GetLippieTuesday review: Maybelline Vivid Matte Lipstick, P299 each.

Based on the sheer number of Maybelline posts on my blog, you can tell that it’s my favorite drugstore brand. That’s why I was worried when they released a matte line. Would it look chalky? Would a matte lippie this cheap make my pout crack and suffer? Would it disappoint?

Here's what the packaging looks like. Not too fancy or exciting to whip out, but the matte cap is a nice touch.

Find out if these Maybelline matte lippies are any good (or if they made me change my mind about it being my favorite drugstore brand) after the jump! Continue reading

#GetLippieTuesday: Stila Liquid Lipstick in Bacca

Check out one of the latest lippies from Stila’s Spring 2016 collection!

It's the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Bacca!

The color is gorgeous! I’m a sucker for bolder lip shades, so I’ve been using it almost every day now. It says it’s similar to raspberry on their website, but to me, it actually looks more like a deep, cranberry red. What do you think?

This creamy matte can last up to 6 hours and it feels pretty light on your lips.

This creamy matte can last up to 6 hours and it feels pretty light on your lips. Win!

Because it’s long-lasting, you will need to use a good makeup remover to get it all off at the end of the day. But other than that, you’ll be happy to know that you can wear this without prepping your pout with lip balm without drying it out (its formula has moisturizing avocado oil and vitamin E). The color is also über rich if you apply a full coat, but I actually like wearing it as a stain for a sexy, just-kissed effect.

Just dab a bit of color on your ring finger and then press it into your lips.

You do have to be careful when applying it to make sure that it doesn’t go past your lip line (just use a brush for precision). I really like using this lippie on days when I have lots of meetings and can’t be bothered with retouching. And honestly, guys? I’d say this is waaaaay more worth it than the Kylie Lip Kits if you want a matte, liquid lipstick that you won’t get tired of. It may not be as exciting or hyped up, but trust me, you’ll use this (and end up loving it) more in the long run. Haha, kinda like the good guy you should date :p

#GetLippieTuesday: Cosmo Girl Edition

A few weeks ago, there was a crazy article on my feed about how EOS lip balms were causing all sorts of allergies (read about it here and here). The hot topic got me and Cosmo’s resident beauty girl, Retty Contreras, talking about our lip balm issues. And guess what? She told me that the EOS thing actually happened to her! Fortunately, she was able to cure her skin dilemma with the help of her derma + an OTC hydrocortisone cream.

Phew! So after the shock of the EOS scandal wore off, our convo switched to all the fab lipstick colors she was wearing on IG (follow her via @rettyacon). Other women inspire me to be braver about my lippie shades, so I asked if she’d share her top picks on the blog—and she agreed! Yay! Check them out below:

The lippie pick: MAC Lipstick in Twig.

The lippie pick: MAC Satin Lipstick in Twig.

Retty says: “If I could live on one lipstick alone, it would be Twig. I think I’ve convinced at least 10 people to get their own tube!”

Retty says: “I wanted to see what the hype was about Tom Ford lippies. Aside from the pretty packaging, the formulation is really something I’ve never seen for. Also, I’m not sure why, but my lips look bigger when I use it. Lols.”

Are you loving Retty’s picks so far? You have to see the last one—it’s from MAC’s new retro matte line and the bloody red shade looks uh-ma-zing. Continue reading

#GetLippieTuesday

It’s that time of the week again—and I’ve got a fab find for all the MAC (and matte) lovers out there!

It's the MAC Lipstick in Diva, P990. And yes, it's matte.

It’s the MAC Lipstick in Diva, around P900. And yes, it’s matte.

Honestly? I love MAC lipstick hues…a lot. They make me feel like I’m so fashionable whenever I swipe them on. It’s just the kind of lipstick that a cool girl would whip out, you know? The thing is, they hurt like heck when I put them on. It would really dry out my pout and leave my lips cracked for days.

I

It looks pretty red in the photo, but it’s so much darker in person. I thought it would be a chocolate red, but it’s actually more of a dark brick with blue-ish undertones.

Once applied, I was very aware that I had it on. I told myself that I would swipe it off immediately as soon as I felt any signs that my lips were drying out. But you know what? After four hours, I relaxed my beauty muscles. Looks like it wasn’t going to torture my pout this time. Phew! It’s either they reformulated a bit or this magic lip sleeping mask is really working! I use it at almost every other night!
