First Look: NARS X Steven Klein

Limited edition and holiday collections are always exciting, but I have to say, this one really takes the cake!

It's the Nars X Steven Klein collection! It'll be available at Rustan's this November.

I kinda felt like doofus because I didn’t really know who Steven Klein was. During the intimate event, I learned that he’s one of the most challenging and provocative artists in photography and film. He’s a staple in top magazines like Vogue and is behind many controversial shoots—like that 2005 Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie spread where they acted like a married couple.

The work of Steven Klein is grounded in reality, but he always adds a elements of allure and dark glamour.

For this collection, François Nars and Steven Klein sifted through thousands of images. Their goal? To choose captivating visuals that depict Steven’s body of work over the past 20 years and the overall spirit of their beauty collaboration. Take a look:

All the makeup comes in pretty boxes that you can collect. This one’s my favorite, and I think, the one where you’ll really get your money’s worth.

How To Get A Gel Manicure Finish Without The UV Lamp + Damage

After a traumatic gel manicure experience at a salon, I vowed never to get one again (it made my nails sooo brittle). The problem? I’d catch myself staring longingly at the extra shiny and vivid finish vivid colors of gals with gel manis. #NailEnvy

Trying GirlStuff Forever's new Solique Gel Polish line. Look at the booths at the back—we got to choose a pretty scarf and ring post-mani, too!

Now don’t get confused—I technically haven’t broken my vow about gel manicures that need to be cured with LED or UV lamps. Girlstuff’s Solique gel polish line is actually unique because its formula gives you all the perks of a gel mani (like high shine, intense color) and it’s supposed to stay chip-free longer. The difference? You just apply it like regular polish!

The Solique line has 6 shades, but these are my top picks: Hush (baby pink), Baby Blue, and Just A Fantasy (pink).

What’s even more awesome is that you don’t have to go to the salon and torture your nails with the whole “nail foil” removal technique. The Solique polish can be removed using regular nail polish remover and it’s 5-Free also (meaning no toxic ingredients like toulene and formaldehyde).

You just need to use a special top coat to lock in the color and give your polish an extra glossy finish.

Okay, so now that you know what the Solique line is all about, let’s see it what it looks like on me and find out how long it actually stayed chip-free! Continue reading

The Easiest Nail Art Ever!

If you’re following me on IG, then you know what I was up to yesterday…

Worked on prepping my mind and nails for this week! Seriously guys, you should read this book!

Worked on prepping my mind (and nails!) for this week! P.S. You guys should totally read this book—so many insights for women!

Anyway, I decided to play around with this pretty polish set from OPI because one of my lovely readers (hi, Tet!) mentioned that she misses my nail art tutorials. Don’t worry—I’ll definitely try to do more of them again now that my nails are healthier.

This new line of polish allows you to create your own abstract nail art. The colors are semi-translucent, so you get to build and blend with each layer you add.

I rarely finish a bottle of polish, so I like that they're teeny-tiny in size.

Okay, enough gabbing! Let me show you how to do it :)

After your applying your base coat, sweep a layer of the silver polish on each nail.

One coat was enough for me. It dries pretty fast, so the more layers you put, the thicker and streakier it gets. I tried to cover each nail in a few clean swoops, which was fairly easy to do.

Now the fun part! Check out how I colored and played artist with these blendable colors after the jump! Continue reading

How To Make A DIY Dotting Tool

When I was still experimenting with nail art, I didn’t have a lot of fancy tools. Instead, I would use whatever knick-knacks I had around the house to make my own dotting tool. If you don’t want to spend and just want to have fun with polish over the weekend, try this easy nail art hack:

Don’t forget to choose different-sized pin heads, so you can create various shapes and circles!

So cute, right? Really love the illustrations that the über talented Chris Clemente made! If you want more illustrated how-tos, subscribe to my e-newsletter (I’ll send you a free one via email!). Don’t forget to leave a comment and tell me what other beauty how-tos you’d like to see on the blog.

Happy Friday, guys! ♥

Today’s Nails: Summer Edition!

I finally had time to get a decent mani yesterday, so I decided to have a little fun!

Isn't this just perfect for summer?

Isn’t this just perfect for summer?

The last time I had nail art done, it was a play on negative space. I’m still not over this nail trend, so I decided to experiment by playing around with more colors this time.

Here's a closer look at my nails. Love, love, love the happy colors!

I had ’em done at I Do Nails Eastwood and it only took about an hour—mostly because I had trouble figuring out the best color combos to use.
