I learned so many life lessons this week! They started out as challenging experiences, but I’m trying to look at them from a different perspective.
Here we go!
The “don’t let people bring you down” part of this quote was a big one for me. A few jabs were thrown my way this week and I was very surprised because this normally doesn’t happen. So once the shock wore off, a little anger began to creep in. I thought of things I should’ve said or done, and in a moment of pure indulgence, I thought it would’ve felt really good to just do this:
Here’s the thing: I can’t control or change what happened, but I can choose how I react and feel about the situations and people I encounter. There’s really no way I’m going to allow resentment or anger to linger in my life, so I had to get my head straight and work on helping my ego let these issues go. It’s still a work in progress, but I already know that these experiences are going to be some of the greatest teaching moments of my life!
This is true for hanging on to anything negative really—like anger, resentment, or not being willing to forgive someone.
If you’re in a similar situation and want to work on letting stuff go, keep reading! I’ll share my insights (and talk about the kind love I’m giving myself) after the jump! Continue reading →
A gorgeous smile—no matter how fantastic your lipstick may be—won’t have the same impact if your teeth are yellow-stained. Luckily, I have a few beauty cheats we can use to score a brighter, dazzling smile…and they all have to do with the color blue! Curious? Try these two tricks:
1. Pick a red lipstick that has blue undertones.
The right red can b a subtle way to cheat your way to whiter teeth!
The thing is, it can be difficult for makeup newbies to spot the undertone. To make it easier for you to shop for a blue-based red, I’m gonna suggest you try this matte pick from Nars.
Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl. It’s actually Taylor Swift’s go-to red!
What I like about this is that it feels comfortable on your lips and it really does glide on like velvet. It’s long-lasting and the siren red is such a gorgeous color. Just slick on this lipstick (more layers = more impact) and you’ll instantly look super glamorous. It’s a must for date night or fancy occasions when you want to rock an old Hollywood vibe.
2. Try a whitening toothpaste.
Actress Heart Evangelista relies on Closeup Diamond Attraction Toothpaste to score her charming smile.
This toothpaste is a blue-colored gel that gives your teeth an immediate whitening boost. “It utilizes Blue Light Technology through a blue covarine foam that lessens the yellow tones on teeth, making teeth look whiter and brighter, instantly,” explains cosmetic dentist Dr. Cecile Infantado. I’ve been doing some lurking on Instagram to see who had the hottest hair and makeup looks at this year’s Golden Globes…
Of course, I’m digging Sienna Miller’s ’do! But we’re not talking about hair today—I spy a matte, neutral lip!
Kate Hudson was rockin’ a matte neutral, too. It was just a tad darker and kinda reminds me of this.
Even those who hit the after party were working neutral lippies! Looks like this was the hottest lip trend at the Globes!
I’m not really a h-u-g-e fan of neutral (or nude) lips, but I gave it a try at a MAC event and learned that you just really need to balance it with a darker, smokey eye to make it work (more about that here). I’ve warmed up to this beauty look a bit, but maaaann, a bright, poppin’ lip color will always win me over.
Neutral lips may have been the main trend, but the cool girls know where it’s at! It was all about vivid reds for BFFs Taylor Swift, Jaime King, and Lorde at the InStyle Golden Globes After Party.
But guess what? None of these looks are my favorite!! I mean, they’re fab and all, but they’re just kinda predictable. The actress that really caught my attention and made me go “I want to look like her!” was… Continue reading →
Have you guys seen Taylor Swift’s new music video, Shake It Off?
I’m a Swiftie all the way and I’m inspired by all-things Taylor from her style to her hair (read about that here). In the video above, I LOVED her beatnik-inspired look that came out at around the 1:44 mark.
So gorgeous! I have to copy this!
If we analyze her look, it seems simple and straightforward enough. But it’s the details that’ll help you pull it off fabulously. Here’s what I did:
Time to play!
Check out the step-by-step makeup action, the products I used, and see if I was able to copy Taylor’s look after the jump! Continue reading →
The last time I had a real hair cut with my hairstylist, Jing Monis, was around late January. At the time, I wanted to experiment with a shorter bob. Check it:
Hanging out with my former editor, Ianne Evangelista, and fashion editor, Rachelle Que. This was after the Philosophy launch a few months ago. Look how black my strands are!
Now I want to grow out my hair. I blame Taylor Swift for this, really.
Taylor’s long bob (or lob, as it’s more popularly known) is sooo chic. I super like how she plays around with the way she styles it. The cut actually reminds me of Karlie Kloss’ bob, but I appreciate this look on Taylor much more.
During my appointment with Jing last Monday, I told him I wanted to grow out my hair. He described the look he had in mind for me and…it was Taylor’s cut! Hmm, this cut and I must really be MFEO.
Jing re-shaped my modern bob, so it can grow into a long bob.
