Here’s What Happened When I Used A Korean Face Mask For 7 Days

If I had to choose between skincare and makeup, I’d definitely choose skincare. But no matter how diligent I was with my cleanse-tone-moisturize routine, it wasn’t enough. After traveling to colder climates every few months, my skin hit its limit.

Here's what my skin looks like before the challenge. Dry, red in some areas, and tight!

Here’s what my skin looks like before the challenge. Dry, red in some areas, and tight!

When I got back from Japan last March, my skin was at its worst. It was dry, flakey, and rough—and I didn’t know how to deal. No matter how much I moisturized or exfoliated, nothing was working. So when Watsons asked me to do a 7-Day Korean Face Mask Challenge, I was in because I definitely needed to up my hydration game.

Watsons sent over a bunch of masks and I tried the 23 Years Old Cocoon Willow Silky Mask.

Can you see the little gadget beside the mask? That’s the MiLi Pure device. It hooks up to your iPhone via bluetooth and can check your skin’s moisture level. This way, we can check if the mask I’ll be using for 7 days really works. (Yes, I’m really that O.C. when it comes to skincare.)

This is the first time I'm trying a face mask that covers my lips!

This is the first time I’m trying a face mask that covers my lips! Btw, you guys should follow me on IG via @beautyandsparkl for more behind-the-scenes beauty action!

The mask felt weird and it felt a bit uncomfortable since my lips were covered for about 20 minutes, but despite that, it was very high in quality and very refreshing. It was thicker in texture and soaked in moisture-rich serum. I liked that it was especially made for toning dry, dehydrated skin (so it’s exactly what I needed) and that it didn’t make me breakout the entire week (huge win).

Here are the moisture results courtesy of my gadget from MiLi! The left photo is the moisture level of my face on the first day and the right photo is the moisture level of my face on the last day.

So in case you’re wondering if Korean face masks really work, here’s your evidence! On average, skin’s moisture level would jump by almost 5 to 7% immediately after using the mask. I really enjoyed using a mask every night for a week since it saved me a lot of time and effort (in my head at least). I just had to slap on the mask—no need to tone or put a separate eye cream. I would just wait 20 minutes, massage it into my skin after, and tissue-off any excess serum on my skin. It became a ritual that I really looked forward to!

And here's a photo of what my skin looked like after the 7-Day Watsons Korean Face Mask Challenge. What do you think?

I still need to work on getting the glow back at this point, but I was super happy that my skin was on its way to recovery. The redness was practically gone, it was feeling a lot smoother, and I could feel the elasticity begin to return. Yay!

But if you truly want to appreciate the before and after shots, take a look at these photos… Continue reading

Beauty Alert: #WatsonsGreatWhiteSale

Did I tell you that I had a mini hosting gig for Watsons?

On stage facilitating a fun, little skincare trivia game for the #WatsonsGreatWhiteSale event.

That’s (teeny-tiny) me on stage facilitating a fun, little skincare trivia game for the #WatsonsGreatWhiteSale event.

The Watsons team asked me to think of beauty tidbits and questions to ask the guests. The point was to get them to share all of their whitening tips with everyone, because when it comes to skincare, there’s always something new to learn!

One of the questions I asked: Name some of the best whitening ingredients you should look for.

One of the questions I asked: Name some of the best whitening ingredients you should look for.

What are your answers? Mine are niacinamide, vitamin C, lycopene, glutathione, and papaya. There are more of course, but the point here is to highlight the importance of knowing what ingredients are in your products. You really have to read the label and know what you’re getting before you buy—especially when it comes to skin whitening!

But really, let's talk about the juicy parts of skin whitening—problem areas like your armpits, neck, knees, and elbows.

Now let’s talk about the juicy parts of skin whitening—problem areas like your armpits!

Yes, guys. There’s really an IG account dedicated to reposting fabulous-looking, Pinay armpits (also known as kili-kili). I am quite kili-kili conscious, so I have a few fabulous tips I can share on how you can help whiten them. In fact, the technique I use is also applicable to your neck, knees, and elbows also!

Curious? Read more about it after the jump! Continue reading

Happy New Year (And My Latest Haul)

It’s 2016, my sparkly loves!!! What did you do for New Year’s Eve? I hope you had a blast! Me? I spent it in Singapore with my family, which means that I got to buy a little makeup! Yay!

My newest beauty loot and my new 2016 planner!!

My latest beauty loot and my 2016 planner are ready to take on the new year!!

I was actually super excited to visit SG because they have Sephora stores over there, which is basically the mothership of beauty addicts.

I may have hyperventilated when I saw those iconic black and white stripes.

The Sephora store at Ion Mall along Orchard Road. Full disclosure: I may have hyperventilated when I saw those iconic black and white stripes.

I totally had fun exploring all the brands that weren’t available in my country like Marc Jacobs, Tarte, and Urban Decay. I could finally touch and swatch everything!

Ugh, how gorgeous is the UD Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette?

Like this gorgeous is the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette! Was seriously tempted to get this, but UD shadows always end up smearing all over my lower lids :(

Surprisingly, I didn’t really buy anything. All the stuff I really wanted (like the Light of the Party Collector’s Makeup Case from Tarte) was out of stock because of the Christmas rush. So I just ended up getting this…

Smith's Strawberry Lip Balm, around SGD$15 to 20. I forgot the exact price!

I remember feeling that it was kinda expensive for a balm, but I really wanted to try this version of the Rosebud Salve because I’m not a big fan of tin packaging or rose-scented products. Come back tomorrow for my full review for #GetLippieTuesday!

I bought one more thing from Sephora (I’ve been lusting for it for years!) and did a SM Watsons haul also! Check out what I bought after the jump! Continue reading

Pond’s x Happy Skin Exclusive

It’s beauty workshop time with Pond’s!

The ensemble? All white, of course! P.S. Bought my dress from @veranoph in case you like off-shoulder stuff as much as I do :)

I’ve been in the beauty industry for years and I still enjoy listening to tips from more experts. There’s always something to learn!

Celeb makeup artist, Jigs Mayuga shared his tips about BB cream. Beauty guru, Agoo Bengzon, shared her 3 skin basics.

Now when it comes to makeup, they also talked about how the “No Makeup Look” trend is here to stay. The real trick to pulling it off? You have to take care of your skin.

And that's where this gorgeous kit comes in! It was filled with lots of Pond's and Happy Skin goodies, so we could practice our skincare and (no) makeup skills.

What really got everyone excited was when they announced that Pond’s and Happy Skin Cosmetics are collaborating! For every P700 purchase of Pond’s products at Watson’s, you get a FREE mini lipstick from Happy Skin—and it’s really super cute, you guys. Want to see what it looks like? Let’s do some IG stalking!

Soo cute! I'm a fan of the Happy Skin Shut Up & Kiss Me line (reviews here and here), so this is a tote-friendly treat!

Ooh…cute, right? I love small lipsticks (I don’t like carrying bags so much), so I can just stuff this in my pockets. Follow @PondsPh on Twitter for more deets!

I’m a fan of the Happy Skin Shut Up & Kiss Me line (reviews here and here), and really, their shades flatter Pinay skintones so well. I heard that some hardcore fans and beauty girls even collect all the Happy Skin lippie shades. So…in case you’re one of them, get ready to shop because Happy Skin created a new and exclusive shade just for Pond’s! It’s totally perfect for the #NoMakeup look, too.

Bioderma Is Officially Here!

I first heard about Bioderma from my friend, Kat. I tried it when I crashed at her place and forgot to pack my makeup remover. She told me it was actually one of Gwyneth Paltrow’s favorite beauty finds at French pharmacies!

Saw this on GP's site, Goop. Click here to read about her other French pharmacy picks.

Fortunately, we don’t have to travel all the way to France anymore to try this because it’s already available at selected derma clinics—and soon, even at Watsons! I scored a sneak peek during the launch and got to check out the other products from the French brand. Let’s take a look:

With my favorite beauty addicts! Fashion & beauty editors Iya and Sandra and my Team B love, Tina. At the bottom, that’s Bioderma distributor Nikki Tang, celeb stylist Alyanna Martinez, and MAC sponsored makeup artist Jigs Mayuga.

Our host for the event, Bianca Valerio. Sandra and I were totally drooling over her dress! I was really surprised (and kilig!) when she went up to me and gushed about how much she liked my blog! Thank you, Bianca! Hearing that really makes all the long nights worth it <3

Now on to the good stuff…

The cult favorites: Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micellar Solution is perfect for those with dry, sensitive skin. One bottle is actually sold every 3 seconds around the world! The Bioderma Sébium H20 Micellar Solution is for those with oily or acne-prone skin since it has anti-bacterial properties.

Bianca actually gave me a great tip. Since she has combination skin, like most Pinays do, she uses the Sébium formula over her T-zone and the Sensibio over the rest of her face. It’s actually a great way to give your skin what it needs on specific areas of your face if you have the budget.
